Devotional: If God Is For Us

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
— Romans 8:31 (NIV)

Life doesn’t always feel like God is for us.

There are seasons when pain, uncertainty, or loss seem to shout louder than hope. It can feel like we’ve been overlooked, forgotten, or even punished. But Scripture reminds us of a powerful truth: God is for us.

This promise isn’t based on how well life is going or how we feel in the moment. Feelings are real—but they aren’t always reliable indicators of truth. What’s true is what God has already revealed: He didn’t spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all. That means our greatest need—reconciliation with God—has already been met. There is no deeper proof of His love and no higher gift He could offer.

We don’t have to guess how God feels about us. We don’t have to wonder whether we’ve done enough to earn His favor. In Christ, we’ve already received everything we truly need: forgiveness, eternal life, and an unshakeable relationship with our Creator.

This doesn’t mean life will be easy. There will still be trials, grief, and spiritual opposition. But none of these things can separate us from God’s love or cancel the victory that Jesus has secured for us. When we root our identity in that truth, we can live with confidence—even when life is hard.

Reflection Questions

  1. When in your life have you felt like God might not be for you? What were the circumstances?

  2. What lies about God’s character have you unintentionally believed?

  3. How does knowing your greatest need has already been met in Jesus change your outlook on today’s struggles?

  4. What are some ways you can remind yourself this week of God’s presence and promises?

Prayer

Father,
Thank You for being for me—even when I can’t see it, feel it, or understand it. Thank You for the promise in Romans 8 that nothing can separate me from Your love. Help me not to base my identity or security on my circumstances or emotions, but instead on the truth of Your Word. Remind me daily that in Jesus, You’ve already met my greatest need. Strengthen my heart with Your presence and give me peace in the midst of whatever comes.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
